Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2015, the Black or African American Alone population in West Virginia was 65,348 and represented 3.55% of the total West Virginia population (1,843,332).

Among West Virginia counties, Kanawha County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (14,238), followed by Berkeley County (8,329), and Raleigh County (6,335). Calhoun County had the lowest (18).
