According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 131,972 people in Iowa who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 4.14% of the total population of Iowa. Polk County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (35,623), followed by Linn County (16,449), and Scott County (14,117). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Taylor County (2), Ringgold County (3), and Davis County (8).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Black Hawk County had the highest percentage, with 10.43% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Johnson County (8.40%), and Scott County (8.08%).
