According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 168,809 people in Kansas who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 5.75% of the total population of Kansas. Sedgwick County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (46,531), followed by Wyandotte County (34,589), and Johnson County (28,781). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Lane County (0), Osborne County (1), and Ness County (2).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Wyandotte County had the highest percentage, with 20.44% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Geary County (17.16%), and Sedgwick County (8.88%).
