According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 25,752 people in Maine who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 1.89% of the total population of Maine. Cumberland County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (12,120), followed by Androscoggin County (6,531), and York County (2,098). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Piscataquis County (61), Waldo County (148), and Washington County (162).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Androscoggin County had the highest percentage, with 5.88% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Cumberland County (4.00%), and Penobscot County (0.99%).
