Mississippi Black or African American Alone Population By County in Census 2020

According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 1,084,481 people in Mississippi who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 36.62% of the total population of Mississippi. Hinds County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (158,112), followed by DeSoto County (56,205), and Harrison County (51,706). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Tishomingo County (434), Issaquena County (757), and Itawamba County (1,625).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Claiborne County had the highest percentage, with 87.46% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Jefferson County (85.28%), and Holmes County (83.86%).
