According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2023, the number of deaths for South Dakota was 8,556. Minnehaha County had the highest number of deaths (1,512), followed by Pennington County (1,108), and Brown County (363). On the other hand, Harding County had the lowest number of deaths (6), followed by Jones County (12), and Sully County (14).
