According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2012, the number of deaths for West Virginia was 21,496. Kanawha County had the highest number of deaths (2,312), followed by Cabell County (1,082), and Raleigh County (1,005). On the other hand, Wirt County had the lowest number of deaths (62), followed by Gilmer County (86), and Doddridge County (86).
