According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2024, the net international migration rate for South Dakota was 1.75. Jones County had the highest net international migration rate (18.43) followed by Beadle County (10.56), and Brookings County (7.08). On the other hand, Butte County had the lowest net international migration rate (-0.18), followed by Hughes County (-0.17), and Stanley County (0).

Net International migration rate for a given county refers to the difference between number of people moving to the county from other parts of the world outside the borders of the United States (50 states and District of Columbia) and the number of people moving out of the county to other parts of the world outside the borders of the United States per 1,000 of the mid-year population of the county.
