Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2017, the Death Rate per 1K for the United States was 8.6. Among all US states and DC, West Virginia had the highest death rate (12.68), followed by Alabama (10.92), and Kentucky (10.91).

On the other hand, Utah had the lowest death rate (5.81) followed by Alaska (5.97), and Colorado (6.75).
