According to the US Census Bureau estimates, 54,095 (2.58%) of the 2,093,754 New Mexico population in 2018 identified as Black or African American alone.

Other counties with high number of African Americans include: Doña Ana County (5,056) - 2.33% of the county's population, and Sandoval County (3,906) - 2.69% of the county's population.
