According to data from the Small Businesss Administration (SBA), the SBA, as part of the paycheck protection program (PPP), has provided a total of 221,084 (221.08K) loans totaling $17,971,976,004 ($17.97B) to small businesses in Virginia. The total number of jobs saved by these loans was 1,993,925 (1.99M).
As at April 2025, 202.72K number of loans has been completely forgiven by SBA (91.69% of the total number of loans), and a total of $17.34B has been forgiven (96.48% of the total loan amount). The PPP program was intended to provide incentives for small businesses to keep their workers on payroll.

Number of Loans: For total number of loans given to businesses in each county, Fairfax received the highest (37,078), followed by Loudoun (12,955), and Virginia Beach City (12,514).
