Non-Compliance Description:

On April 19, 2021 at approximately 0609 hrs., while observing the driving of veal from pen 4 to the kill area, I witnessed the following noncompliance: one veal calf was driven into the metal gate of the pen by the plant employee holding a shaker paddle, the force of the collision resulted in the calf falling to the ground and rolling to its back. The fallen calf regained its footing and walked away from the employee. The animal was being pushed too fast by the plant staff. I alerted plant personnel of the failure to comply with humane handling regulations and to stop the kill. Mr. Michael Bierig Manager stated he would proceed with corrective actions (training), the kill was restarted at 0615 hours. Subsequent animals driven into the kill area were done in full compliance with regulations.
