Non-Compliance Description:

On 09/20/2021 at approximately 0835 hours, Dr. REDACTED directly observed the establishment attempt to stun a bovine. The initial stun applied with a .223 caliber rifle was ineffective as the animal remained standing; eyes were tracking; the animal exhibited rhythmic breathing; and the animal was vocalizing. The establishment stun operator immediately applied a second stun attempt using the .223 rifle. The second stun was immediately effective, and the animal remained unconscious throughout the shackling, hoisting and bleeding process. No regulatory control was taken due to the prompt corrective actions from the establishment. Jesse Bauer, Plant Manager, was verbally notified of the noncompliance. There have been no other non-compliances for the same root cause issued within the past 90 days.
