Hats Category VIII Stunning Effectiveness Hats Category IX Check for Conscious Animal on the Rail At approximately 1255, while performing a livestock humane handling task, I observed an ineffective stun on a hog in the restrainer. The stun was attempted with a pneumatic captive bolt device. When it was attempted it left a small, red, circular mark on the hog’s forehead. After the initial stun attempt the hog was conscious as it continued to stand and vocalized. A small, red, circular mark was observed on the hog's forehead. The stunning employee immediately applied a second stun, with the same PCB device, and rendered the animal unconscious. At that point I verbally told the establishment to stop stunning until corrective actions were given. At approximately 1305 Plant Manager REDACTED offered corrective actions and I allowed stunning to continue. I informed Plant Manager REDACTED that I would be issuing a non-compliance. The is a violation of 9 CFR 313.15(a)(1).
