Non-Compliance Description:

On Wednesday March 23, 2022, at approximately 1100 hours while conducting a routine humane handling task with Dr. REDACTED verifying HAT category IV handling during ante-mortem inspection, we observed the following non-compliances. In the livestock holding pens the main gate to the livestock holding area has a section of woven fencing wire approximately 1ft by 1ft section that has broken and protruding wires that would potentially injure livestock. Animals are only in this area during unloading and are then put directly into a separate pen, so no animals were injured by the wire. Also, we found an approximately 8-10-inch-long gate hinge that the silver gate leading to the alleyway hangs from sticking out into the pen that could potentially injure livestock. No animals were injured as they could not access this area of the pen when the gate was closed. These findings are non-compliant with the regulation listed above. This establishment has a documented robust systematic approach to humane handling. I notified Mr. REDACTED of my findings verbally and with this written non-compliance record.
