313.15(a)(1)
On today Mon. 5/9/22, at the approximate time of 0720, in verification of the establishments Humane handling verifications, the following noncompliance was observed under HAT category 8-Stunning Effectiveness: Dr REDACTED, Dallas District Veterinary Medical Specialist, and CSI REDACTED observed an egregious ineffective stunning of a steer. In the process of trying to render the steer unconscious, the establishment repeatedly stun the steer 6 ineffective attempts to stun the steer into unconsciousness, the steer remained in standing posture, and vocalized. The 7th stun was effective, rendered the animal unconscious. The first initial and secondary stun were ineffective as Dr. REDACTED and CSI REDACTED were observing employees to continue going back and forth to equipment room to reload the stun guns and return to the stunning box and stun the steer up to the seventh stun. At approximately 7:30am CSI REDACTED informed Manager REDACTED of the egregious noncompliance for ineffective stunning in violation of 9 CFR 313.15(a)(1). The knock box was ‘Rejected’ with MP tag B39419276. Other animals in the entrance chute were put back into their respective holding pens. The Dallas District Office was informed of the establishments noncompliance for Humane Handling.
