Non-Compliance Description:

On 03/02/2023 at approximately 08:10AM while performing Slaughter Inspection Duties at Cruse Meat Processing (TA46354) I observed the following non-compliance. While observing slaughter activities IPP heard a stun attempt with a hand-held captive bolt gun. Immediately after the attempt IPP heard an animal vocalizing. IPP stepped to the knock box and observed the animal standing with blood running down it’s forehead. IPP observed as a successful 2nd attempt was performed in a timely manner using a readily available back-up charge. IPP took regulatory control of the knock-box with USDA Rejected Tag No. B32-074204 and notified REDACTED (Kill Floor Supervisor) of the incident. Establishment Owner REDACTED then walked up and was also notified. IPP then notified NCDA Area Supervisor REDACTED of the incident. IPP notified REDACTED (Establishment Owner) of the non-compliance and failure to comply with 9CFR 313.15(a)(1) and HATS Category 8 “Stunning Effectiveness”.
