The following was observed at D&D Meats Est # 47791 this morning, At approximately 0934, a 1400lb steer was loaded into the knock box with body and head restraint. An initial stun attempt with a handheld captive bolt device was ineffective, as evidenced by the steer displaying conscious vocalization. The stun operator promptly retrieved the backup handheld captive bolt device and delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. The knock box was tagged with retain tag number B-46527255 and plant owner REDACTED was notified of the observed non-compliance and of the regulatory control action.
