On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, SPHV Dr. REDACTED conducted an Ante Mortem task at approximately 0620 hours and observed an almost dry water trough in Pen #8 holding 8 steers. REDACTED was notified of the issue and immediately added water to the trough. Review of the pen card showed a date documented as 12-13-22. This is the date the animals were delivered. Ante Mortem activities are typically conducted the day of slaughter and the pen cards associated with that lot of animals should reflect current date of slaughter, which in this case would be 12-14-22. REDACTED was notified that a non-compliance report would be documented for the lack of water in Pen #8. This is non-compliant with 9 CFR 313.2(e); Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens. Review of records show no same cause non-compliance reports issued in the last 90 days.
