At approximately 1040 hours, while performing humane handling verification, I observed the following noncompliance. Establishment personnel attempted to stun a large bull, approximately 1300 lbs., with a .410 slug shotgun. First stun was ineffective, and the bull remained standing. The stunner took immediate corrective actions and shot the bull a second time, but the bull remained standing. The stunner took immediate effective corrective actions and shot the bull a third time rendering it unconscious. The stunner then applied a security stun. This is noncompliant with 9 CFR 313.14(a)(1).
313.2
On 2/27/23, at 0715 hours while performing antemortem inspection the following noncompliance was observed by myself, Consumer Safety Inspector REDACTED: Pen #3 which contained three sheep and four pigs had no water available. Immediately upon informing a slaughter floor employee filled two containers in the pen with water. Establishment Supervisor REDACTED was informed of the above-described situation and that the incident did not comply with 9 CFR 313.2(e) and a noncompliance record would be documented.
