HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness At approximately 0800 while performing HATS tasks I, CSI REDACTED and PHV Dr. REDACTED observed the following events at establishment #47021 K&J Meat Processing LLC. A hog was moved into the knocking box. The stun operator delivered an initial stun attempt which was observed to contact the animal, but the bolt was aimed too low, and the stun was ineffective, as the animal remained standing. The stun operator reloaded the handheld captive bolt and delivered immediate and effective corrective actions with the same device, which rendered the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. The knock box was tagged with US Reject Tag B-26068880 and REDACTED Establishment Manager/Partial Owner, was notified of the non-compliance with 9 CFR 313.15(a)(1) and 9 CFR 313.15(a)(3), and the regulatory control action.
