Non-Compliance Description:

Category IV -Ante-mortem Inspection On 9/26/23 while performing the humane handling verification task the following noncompliance was observed. Four large cattle were observed in the 3rd pen on the left when entering the barn. These cattle were touching each other and the walls of the pen without adequate room for them to lie down safely. Establishment management stated they were held overnight. 9 CFR 313.2(e) states "Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down." A search of PHIS did not show any recent similar noncompliance. No regulatory control action was taken at this time.
