313.1
On 02/02/23 at approximately 1300 hours while observing handling of the market hogs around the pig pens the Consumer Safety Inspector (CSI) found the following noncompliance. While walking through an empty Pen 5 the CSI found the south gate to be rusted with missing pieces at the bottom. The gates in Pen 5 are approximately 3 feet in length and made of thick metal. The missing and broken pieces created jagged edges along the bottom and were protruding where hogs are commonly resting. REDACTED, Kill Floor Supervisor, was called over and was shown the edges. At that time the CSI placed a U.S. Rejected tag (B42004272) on the south gate in Pen 5. No hogs were in the pen at the time, and the CSI informed Mr. REDACTED that hogs may be placed in Pen 5 so long as the pen divider is in place. Mr. REDACTED was informed of the upcoming noncompliance with 9 CFR 313.1 at approximately 1315 hours. No other issues were found, and no animals were harmed.
