On 1-29-24 at approximately 6:15am at Blueridge Processing ( TA-2225) Myself and Dr. REDACTED were observing plant personnel attempting to stun a black angus bull. The plant employee elected to use a captive bolt gun; the attempt failed, with the animal still standing after cartridge was fired. The employee then immediately took a 22mag rifle stationed at the knock box and stunned the animal, which was rendered unconscious immediately. REDACTED and REDACTED were notified of the non compliance with 9CFR Part 313.15a1. Would like to add same non compliance was documented on 1-24-24

On 1/22/24 at approximately 0955 at Blueridge Processing (TA-2225), IIC REDACTED Area 1 Supervisor REDACTED and Dr. REDACTED (District Veterinary Medical Specialist) were observing plant personnel attempting to stun a Scottish Highland steer. The plant employee elected to use a captive bolt gun; the attempt failed, with the animal still standing after the cartridge was fired. The employee then immediately took a 22-mag rifle stationed at the knock box and stunned the animal, which was rendered unconscious immediately. REDACTED and REDACTED were notified of noncompliance with 9 CFR Part 313.15(a)(1).
