Non-Compliance Description:

Livestock Humane Handling task, HAT Category 8, Stunning Effectiveness Today 04/02/2024 at approximately 0610 hours while performing the Livestock Humane Handling task, HAT Category 8, Stunning Effectiveness on the second steer at the knock box along with the District Veterinary Medical Specialist, we observed noncompliance. We observed an ineffective first attempt to stun the animal. The bolt shot but the animal remained sensible as evident by remaining standing and shaking its head. There was obvious blood on top of the head and in the nose of the animal. Company personnel performed immediate corrective actions by immediately having a second employee hand a second loaded stun gun to the stunning operator. He applied an effective second shot that rendered the animal unconscious as it dropped to the floor and was insensible. A third shot as security stun was then immediately applied. The animal remained unconscious throughout the remainder of the slaughter process. Mr. REDACTED, Supervisor was notified both verbally an in writing as per this noncompliance record of the failure to meet regulatory requirement 9CFR 313.15(a)(1).
