HATS CATEGORY VIII – Stunning Effectiveness On August 1, 2024, I, Dr. REDACTED was performing a Livestock Humane Handling Verification Task at M47502 Patterson’s Butcher Shop and observed the following non-compliance. At approximately 0720, I witnessed the establishment move a sheep into the cattle knock box, standing freely. A stun attempt utilizing a .22 long rifle was observed to contact the animal but was ineffective, as the sheep remained standing with blood dripping from its nose and mouth. The establishment proceeded to further restrain the head of the sheep with a small chain, and then delivered an effective corrective action stun, rendering the sheep insensible, and it remained so thereafter. A US reject tag, B37063939, was immediately placed on the chute and I notified the establishment owner, Mrs. REDACTED of the non-compliance.
