Non-Compliance Description:

On 10/18/23, at approximately 0830hrs., I REDACTED, Consumer Safety Inspector, performed a routine Humane Handling verification task at Est. 966, and discovered the following noncompliance. REDACTED, Plant Manager, stated that two sow located in pen #2 had arrived at 1700hrs. on 10/17/23, and upon checking the water valve in pen #2 it was discovered that the water valve was bent upward, therefore not giving the sows access to water. The two sows were moved to pen #1 where the water valve was working. U.S. Rejected tag # B37528798 was applied to pen #2 until the water valve can be repaired. The CSI informed REDACTED, Plant Manager, that since the sows had no access to water from the time that they arrived at Est. 966 to until the time that the Humane Handling verification task was performed, that a noncompliance would be issued for violation of 9 CFR 313.2(e). In reviewing the past 90 days of noncompliance records none were found with the same root cause.
