I CSI REDACTED observed the following Noncompliance. On Monday October 29, 2024, at 9:22 a.m. I was observing the pens of the establishment. The establishment was trying to move an inspected animal from the pen to the knock box. Once the cattle got on the live weight scale it became excited and tried to turn around and head back to the pens. Due to the live weight being slippery because of the feces from the animals in pen 1 next to the live weight scale. The animal slipped and fell face forward hitting the ground which then the animal got its head stuck in between the pen rail system. The animal was able to get itself unstuck and was able to stand up. The animal did go back to the pen in its own. I informed the establishment employee to keep the animal in the pen until I notified management of what I had seen. I notified management supervisor REDACTED on what had occurred and informed her that I will be documenting a noncompliance 9 CFR. 313.1 (b) Floors of livestock pens, ramps, and driveways shall be constructed and maintained so as to provide good footing for livestock. Slip resistant or waffled floor surfaces, cleated ramps and the use of sand, as appropriate, during winter months are examples of acceptable construction and maintenance. Management response to keeping the live weight scale from not being slippery is putting a barrier between the pens and live weight scale. The establishment did get the animal to knock box without any further incidents.
