313.15(b)(1)(iii)
On Thursday, 2/27/2025, approximately at 8:30 a.m. IPP, REDACTED, noticed a non-compliance on the Kill floor with Humane Handling at Est# M46656 while in the presence of the following supervisors: Dr. REDACTED (Federal Frontline), REDACTED (TA Frontline), REDACTED (State Supervisor), and REDACTED (Relief/ Assistant Supervisor). On the bottom of the knock box door, the bottom lower half, the piping is rusted to the point where part of the piping is missing and there are sharp edges that a smaller animal could be cut or stabbed by when in the knock box. Pipes on knock box in poor repair. This non-compliance does not comply with regulation 9 CFR 313.15(b)(iii). Establishment management was made aware of these findings. A hard copy of regulation 313.15(b)(1)(iii) on adequate restraint; stunning area design and construction has been attached to the physical copy of this non-compliance.
313.2
While performing my scheduled Livestock Humane Handling task around 7:58 a.m., I noticed that there is a deficiency in two of the in-use livestock pens. The first and middle pen are without accessible water to the animals being housed in the pens. I spoke with REDACTED a little after 7:58 a.m., to make him aware that the animals need water, and this does not comply with regulation 313.2(e)*. I re-checked the pens around 9:06 a.m. and nothing changed. I made both REDACTED and REDACTED, Jr. aware of this deficiency a little after the 10 a.m. break. *313.2(e) Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down." (This regulation in pdf form will be attached to the hard copy of NR.)
