Non-Compliance Description:

HATS Category VIII - Stunning Effectiveness On October 28, 2024, at Byler’s Custom Meats est. M2588, at approximately 12:54 pm, while performing the Livestock Humane Handling Verification Task, I CSI REDACTED observed establishment personnel move a mature sheep into the knock box and restrain the head with a rope halter. The initial stun attempt with a 22 Mag rifle was observed to contact the animal, but was ineffective, as the animal immediately dropped, but stood back up as the gate was opened. Establishment personnel re-restrained the animal, positioned for safety, the stun operator reloaded the firearm, and the stun operator delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. The knock box was rejected using US Retain/Reject tag #B-46680640 and Mr. REDACTED, establishment manager/owner, was notified of the non-compliance and of the regulatory control action.
