313.15(a)(1)
On 11/12/2024 at approximately 0845, CSI REDACTED observed the following noncompliance while performing a Humane Handling verification task under HATS VIII – Stunning Effectiveness. An ineffective hand-held captive bolt stunning attempt on a heifer was observed followed by an immediate corrective action of an effective stun. After the initial stun, the animal remained standing, vocalized, but did not move her head. The second stun was immediately attempted with the preloaded backup hand-held captive bolt that was readily available. The animal was rendered unconscious. This is a non-compliance with regulation 9CFR 313.15(a)(1), immediate unconsciousness. CSI REDACTED informed the floor lead, REDACTED, of the noncompliance and tagged the restrainer with U.S. Reject tag #B32138157. After verifying the immediate corrective action with CEO REDACTED and REDACTED, the restrainer was released by CSI REDACTED and slaughter was allowed to continue.
