Non-Compliance Description:

On September 8th, 2025 at approximately 08:20 hours while conducting a routine Humane Handling task I noticed the following non-compliances on the slaughter floor; I observed two live cows that were stuck in the same chute. When the employee tried to free the cow that was stuck, I saw him punch the cow twice with a closed fist. I informed the employee that he could not do that and immediately called Slaughter Supervisor REDACTED to the floor. While in front of Supervisor, I then observed the same employee climb up the chute, and placed his body over the cow where he drove the heel of his foot into the back of the animal repeatedly. I informed Slaughterhouse Supervisor REDACTED that I was issuing a non-compliance. Leader Meats Humane Handling Program states that; "Only employees who have satisfactorily completed Leader Meats Slaughterhouse LLC. Animal Handling Training, shall handle animals." “Plastic bags on sticks, or rattle paddles may be used, but not to hit the animals.” Upon reviewing Humane Handling Training records I observed the training attendance sheet Columns labeled Name, Signature & Date was empty. With no employees showing to be currently trained. Establishment did not comply with 9CFR 313.2.
