At 08:15 hours, while verifying HATS category VIII stunning effectiveness, I observed the following noncompliance. The stun operator applied the two-pronged electrical stunner to the hog right behind the ears in the restrainer. The hog lunged forward when the electrical current was applied, this caused the prongs of the electrical stunner to lose contact with the animal. I heard the hog squeal and observed it trying to get its footing to stand up once the electrical stunner lost contact with the animal. The operator then repositioned and effectively stun the animal on his second attempt. Production was stopped until corrective actions and preventive measures were discussed. I verbally notified QA REDACTED of my observation and the forthcoming noncompliance record.
