Humane Handling Category IV 9 CFR 313.1 (a) On June 27, 2025 at approximately 0650 hours, I observed the following noncompliance. Pen 20 had a dead heifer with her head caught in between the rectangular portion of the holding pen gate. The animal was bloated but time of the incident was undeterminable. The rectangular openings in the gate are approximately 12 inches, which allows animals sufficient room to stick their head in but not always pull out. I verbally informed the Yards Supervisor of the noncompliance and the issuance of this noncompliance report. The District Veterinary Medical Specialist was notified. There have been no noncompliance records for the same root cause issued in the past 90 days. This establishment operates under a robust systematic approach to the humane handling of livestock.
