Non-Compliance Description:

Category IX - Conscious Animals on the Rail At approximately 1253 hours on August 11, 2025, while verifying livestock humane handling I, the CSI, observed the following noncompliance: I entered the harvest floor from the northernmost exterior door and witnessed an establishment employee attempting to corner a conscious goat near the door entering the drip cooler. The goat was vocalizing and was bleeding from the throat and forehead. One establishment employee captured the goat and carried it to the stunning area while another establishment employee reloaded the hand-held captive bolt device (HHCBD). The stun operator applied a stun attempt. The second stun attempt was effective, and the goat remained insensible for the shackling, hoisting, and bleeding process. I applied US Reject tag No. B41418925 to the stunning chute. The Area Lead was informed that the stunning chute was rejected and of the forthcoming noncompliance report. He informed me that the goat had dropped with the initial stun, but regained consciousness upon sticking. Upon examination of the dressed head, I observed 2 overlapping holes. The Denver District Management Team was contacted through supervisory channels. There have been no noncompliance reports issued for the same root cause in the past 90 days. This establishment operates under a robust systematic approach to livestock humane handling and slaughter.
