Non-Compliance Description:

On 1/28/2025 at approximately 0655 hours while performing HATS Category IV -Antemortem, I (CSI REDACTED) observed the following humane handling noncompliance. There was a group of 40 cattle in pen 5 and while walking on the catwalk towards the east side I observed one recumbent bovine in the middle of pen 5. When the establishment employee opened the gate to move cattle for inspection and get the recumbent bovine up, all the cattle moved from the west to the east side of pen 5. While the cattle were moving, I observed them stepping on the bovine that was laying down. The establishment employee climbed up on the side fence of pen 5 to move the cattle and the bovine on the ground eventually got up on her own and walked. I noticed in the mud/fecal a calf on the ground and it was getting stepped on as the cattle were moving back and forth from west to east in pen 5. At 0700 hours I asked QA REDACTED to call for her supervisor and for Dirty Side Supervisor REDACTED. QA Superintendent REDACTED arrived, and I informed him of my observations. An establishment employee was able to go back into pen 5 from the west side as all the cattle were pushed to the east of pen 5 and remove the calf out into the alley way so the calf was not getting stepped on anymore. I observed Dirty Side Supervisor REDACTED euthanize the calf. The bovine that gave birth was separated into pen 6. I informed QA Superintendent REDACTED of the forthcoming noncompliance record.
