According to data from the US BLS, the unemployment rate of California was 6.8% (sa) in May, 2002. Among all California counties, these 3 were among those with high unemployment rates (nsa): Imperial (13.5%), Alpine (12.4%), and Sutter (11.3%).

On the hand, the following three counties were among those with low unemployment rates (nsa): Napa (3.8%), San Luis Obispo (4.1%), and Santa Barbara (4.4%).
