According to data from the US BLS, the unemployment rate of the US was 9% (sa) in April, 2009. Among all US states and DC, these 3 were among those with high unemployment rates: Michigan (13.1%), North Carolina (11.4%), and Rhode Island (11.4%).

On the hand, the following three states were among those with low unemployment rates: North Dakota (4%), Nebraska (4.6%), and South Dakota (4.7%).
