Based on the US Census Bureau's special tabulation from the ACS 5-year estimates, in 2012, the US citizen population was 286,993,615 and represented 92.84% of the total US population.

Among all US states and DC, California had the highest citizen population (31.90M), followed by Texas (22.45M), and New York (17.36M).

In terms of percentages, West Virginia had the highest percentage of its population being citizens (99.26%), followed by Montana (99.08%), and Maine (98.53%).
