Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2020, the Black or African American Alone population in Virginia was 1,724,021 and represented 19.96% of the total Virginia population (8,637,193).

Among Virginia counties, Fairfax County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (123,504), followed by Prince William County (107,333), and Henrico County (103,001). Highland County had the lowest (21).
