Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2018, the Black or African American Alone population in Virginia was 1,691,415 and represented 19.87% of the total Virginia population (8,510,920).

Among Virginia counties, Fairfax County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (121,874), followed by Richmond city (110,084), and Prince William County (103,435). Highland County had the lowest (18).
