According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 61,261 people in Michigan who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 0.61% of the total population of Michigan. Wayne County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (7,218), followed by Chippewa County (5,669), and Kent County (4,013). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Keweenaw County (1), Oscoda County (38), and Alcona County (61).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Mackinac County had the highest percentage, with 15.68% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Chippewa County (15.41%), and Baraga County (13.45%).
