According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 130,032 people in North Carolina who identified their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, which is 1.25% of the total population of North Carolina. Robeson County had the highest number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (44,871), followed by Mecklenburg County (6,700), and Wake County (5,756). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Tyrrell County (5), Hyde County (10), and Washington County (23).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Robeson County had the highest percentage, with 38.51% of its population identifying their race as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone, followed by Swain County (29.55%), and Scotland County (10.96%).
