According to the US Census Bureau estimates, 27,507 (3.73%) of the 736,624 Alaska population in 2018 identified as Black or African American alone.

Anchorage Borough had the highest number of African Americans (17,621), and African Americans constituted 6.05% of the county's population. Other counties with high number of African Americans include: Fairbanks North Star Borough (5,448) - 5.52% of the county's population, and Matanuska-Susitna Borough (1,324) - 1.23% of the county's population.
