Based on data from the CDC, the overall number of fatal drug overdose deaths involving Heroin in the US in 2023 was 4,345, and the age adjusted rate per 100,000 persons was 1.9. These overall values was based on data from 42 jurisdictions (i.e. states and DC).

Among all states with data, New York had the highest number of fatal drug overdose deaths involving Heroin (1,010), followed by Illinois (463), Pennsylvania (295), and Wisconsin (242).

In terms of the age-adjusted rate of fatal drug overdose deaths involving Heroin per 100K persons, New York had the highest (5), followed by Wisconsin (4.3), and Alaska (4).
