Non-Compliance Description:

On Wednesday, Sept 1st, 2021, at 10:30 am, the inspection personnel was observing unloading of pigs at B&M Processing # 38552 from the livestock trailer. I noticed that in the pens there were drops of fresh blood. I also identified that a few pigs had fresh lacerations on their heels and soles of their hooves. I informed plant management about the blood in the pens. He could see blood on the trailer floor but was unsure about where it was coming from. I identified that there was a metal plate that was used as a bridge for the pigs to walk on, from the trailer to the ramp with a 4-inch gap. Once the gap was identified there was a reject tag placed on the metal plate. This non-compliance violates federal regulation 9 CFR 313.1 (a)....”livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair....” Reject tag #189423 was applied to the ramp. The corrective action was immediately implemented and there was a wooden board placed across the metal plate along with a rubber mat to bridge the gap.
