On Friday 6/18/2021 while performing Humane Handling procedures at approximately 0715 hours. The following deficiency was observed during inspection of livestock pens. The pen section prior to the knock holding pen was observed to have an area blocked with a sheet of plywood approximately 4'X3' that had eroded and torn on the ends. Livestock (lambs) were present and 3 lambs were seen sticking their heads periodically through the broken end. With other lambs pushing back and forth, this produced a potential for their heads to get stuck and cause excitement and or injury. A regulatory control was then taken to have the lambs moved away and maintenance removed the sheet of plywood. Once the area was deemed safe, slaughter operations were allowed to commence. It was really not needed as there is another sturdier blockage attached to the opposite side of this area. Plant Compliance Officer REDACTED was made aware of the forthcoming non-compliance report. The establishment reviewed the area and informed me (CSI REDACTED) that the area of concern will still receive a more permanent structure. There were no further issues observed with this area throughout the rest of the day.
