On 7/21/21 at approximately 5:01 AM while performing a routine Humane Handling task category #3- Food and Water Availability and anti-mordemn inspection, I, CSI REDACTED and FI REDACTED found the following. In pen number 4 there were 6 bovine animals. The pen contained one blue poly barrel cut in half and used as a water trough. The barrel had less than 1⁄4 inch of water just covering the bottom of the barrel. In the long unloading pen (pen 5), there were 14 bovine animals. There was a black poly barrel cut in half and used as a water trough in the far back corner of the pen that was obviously empty due to the fact the bovine animals were head butting it. The barrel was completely empty and dry on the bottom, indicating no water had been presented recently. These bovine animals arrived on 7/20/21 before noon. We also noted there was only one barrel in a pen of 14 adult bovine animals. The outdoor temperatures have been in the 90’s during the day and 70’s in the night. When notified, a slaughter floor employee (REDACTED) took immediate corrective action by filling the water trough in pen four. He then opened a gate at pen 5 that gave animals access to a filled water trough. When the slaughter floor supervisor (REDACTED) arrived, he was notified of the non-compliance. This is non-compliant with 9 CFR 313.2(e) which states, “Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down.” There have been 2 other NR’s issued to the establishment for Humane Handling Category #3- Water and Food Availability. NR# YUN3204030203N was issued 3/2/21 and NR# YUN3411032723N was issued 3/23/21. NR# YUN3204030203N =On 3/2/2021 at approximately 0610 hours, while performing a Livestock Humane Handling task, I, Dr. REDACTED, SPHV, observed 13 market beef for REDACTED in the holding pen closest to the alleyway leading to the knock box. The pen contained one blue poly barrel cut in half and used as a water trough. The barrel was completely empty and dry on the bottom, indicating no water had been presented recently. NR# YUN3411032723N=On 3/23/2021 at approximately 1040 hours, while performing a Livestock Humane Handling task, I, Dr. REDACTED, SPHV, observed two market hogs in the holding pen closest to the alleyway leading to the knock box. The pen contained one blue poly barrel cut in half and used as a water trough. The barrel was approximately 1/3 full of water, however, the barrel sides were too tall to allow the market hogs access to drink from it.
