HATS Category II At approximately 0910 hours, while conducting HATS Category II inspection activities, with no animals inside the pen, the following non compliances were observed: In one of the swine holding pen where hogs are usually placed after being weighed, the inside fence, at the bottom there was an approximately four inches separation of the aluminum picket and facing outside. Inside the middle holding pen, at the bottom of the metal fence there is a detached / unwelded rail consisting of exposed pickets approximately five feet long. The metal panel of the gate door where they hold the animals prior to enter the chute, at the bottom was bend with approximately seven inches long facing upward. The above observations were shown to REDACTED (Kill Floor) manager and the notification of the no compliance. 9 CFR§ 313.1 States: Livestock pens, driveways, and ramps. (a) Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals. Loose boards, splintered or broken planking, and unnecessary openings where the head, feet, or legs of an animal may be injured shall be repaired.
