HUMANE HANDLING HATS CATEGORY VIII On May 11, 2021, at approximately 10:54 am, I, CSI REDACTED observed the following noncompliance: Establishment personnel attempted to slaughter a hog using the captive bolt stunning device. The body of the hog appeared to be adequately restrained, but the head was free to move side to side. As the first shot was administered, the hog moved its head to the left, which resulted in an ineffective stun. The animal vocalized loudly and remained standing. Establishment employees took immediate and effective corrective actions by working to better restrain the animal for the second stun attempt. Once repositioned, a second shot was administered successfully, and the animal remained insensible thereafter. The knock box was tagged with U.S. Rejected Tag B26011755. Establishment owner (James Yoder) and establishment supervisor (REDACTED) were immediately notified.
